Product walkthrough
A focused daily learning loop.
Learners select a language and level, then work through contextual exercises shaped by their performance. Correct answers build momentum; missed words return at more useful intervals instead of disappearing.
A short visual demonstration of Parlato. The video contains no spoken dialogue.
Learning model
Designed around how vocabulary becomes useful.
The central product decision was to connect frequency, context, and memory. Each mechanism solves a different part of the learning problem while keeping the session simple for the learner.
Useful words first
Frequency-ranked vocabulary prioritises the words learners are most likely to encounter in everyday conversation.
Context over flashcards
Gap-fill exercises place each word inside a complete sentence, reinforcing meaning, spelling, and grammar together.
Practice at the right time
A spaced-repetition engine brings difficult words back sooner and reduces unnecessary reviews of mastered vocabulary.
Product decisions
Personalised without adding friction.
Adaptive level placement
Learners who are unsure of their level can start practising immediately. The ability estimate adapts quickly during the first answers, then settles into gradual lifelong refinement.
Progress learners can understand
Private statistics connect daily effort to vocabulary coverage, fluency estimates, difficult words, mastered words, streaks, and activity over time.
Engineering scope
One full-stack product, from learning logic to production delivery.
I designed and built Parlato with Next.js and TypeScript in a Turborepo architecture. PostgreSQL and Drizzle ORM provide cross-device persistence, while Auth0 supports account security and a multilingual interface serves English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese.
